Getting to know Fairborn

Fairborn sits right next to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base and is home to Wright State University. Its name comes from two villages, Fairfield and Osborn, which joined together as one city in 1950.

Aviation history is all around. The Wright brothers perfected their flying machine at Huffman Prairie Flying Field, just outside town, and the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force is a short drive away. Downtown Fairborn has local shops, from antiques to Halloween costumes, plus places to eat.

Parks and trails

City parks include Oakes Quarry Park and Community Park. The Wright Brothers Huffman Prairie Bikeway also passes through.
Shopping and dining

Downtown Fairborn has shops ranging from antiques to Halloween items, along with local restaurants and free downtown concerts.
Sweet Corn Festival

Each August the Fairborn Sweet Corn Festival brings more than 150 booths, entertainment and plenty of sweet corn to Community Park. Admission is free.
Aviation history

At Huffman Prairie Flying Field the Wright brothers developed the first practical airplane in 1904 and 1905. The Wright Brothers Memorial stands on a hill overlooking it.
