Getting to know Tipp City

Tipp City is a Miami County town just north of Dayton, between I-75 and the Great Miami River. It began in 1840 as Tippecanoe City, laid out by John Clark beside Lock 15 of the Miami and Erie Canal.

The canal-era downtown is now the Old Tippecanoe Main Street Historic District, with local shops and restaurants in its brick storefronts. The Great Miami River Trail and the waterfall at Charleston Falls Preserve are close by.

What you'll find in Tipp City

Parks and trails

Charleston Falls Preserve has more than 200 acres of prairie and forest and a waterfall. Canal Lock Park, on East Main Street, keeps a dry lock from the old canal, and paved trails follow the Great Miami River.
Shopping and dining

Downtown Tipp City has independent shops and restaurants in historic storefronts, with choices that run from boutiques and a toy store to coffee, barbecue and Mexican food.
Mum Festival

Since 1958 the Tipp City Mum Festival has filled City Park with live entertainment, food vendors and one of the largest Friday night car shows in Ohio.
Canal history

The Miami and Erie Canal was built through here in the 1830s. Lock 15, the “Tippecanoe lock,” still stands in Canal Lock Park near a replica canal boat and an old mill.
